Known as one of the most popular breeds in the world, the Labrador is a fun loving, sweet-faced, big baby that is well loved among American dog owners. In fact, AKC ranks it as 1st in most popular among 192 recognized dog breeds.

The sturdy Labrador Retriever can stand from 21.5 to 24.5 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 55 to 80 pounds. Their thick coat comes in yellow, black, and a beautiful chocolate. The head is wide, the eyes glimmer with kindness, and tapering “otter tail” seems to be forever signaling the breed’s continuous enthusiasm.

Labs are famously friendly. They are companionable other animals and bond with the whole family. Labs are great with kids because of their inherent patience and gentle touch. But don’t mistake his easygoing personality for low energy: The Lab is an enthusiastic athlete that requires lots of exercises, like swimming and marathon games of fetch, to keep physically and mentally fit.

It should be stated that Labs are not the type of dog that does well with being alone. They make great companions to other animals, so consider getting a second pet or having someone at home with them as much as possible. Please do not expect them to behave well in cramped environments such as a small apartment. Labs enjoy having room to live and enjoy. Be sure to take them outside to play as much as you can to help them thrive and behave well.

Big dogs have big appetites, and the Lab is no exception, they love their dog food and are particular to let you know when it’s time to have some dog food. They like to remind you that their dog dish is empty and requires your attention. Owners have to be careful not to cross the boundary of overeating. Labs will eat just about anything you give them!

Labs are great adventure buddies as they enjoy physical exercise. If it’s a morning at the park, a day hike, or an overnight camping trip, you can take his My Pet Pail along for the ride without worrying of spillage. It is the ultimate dog feeder for home and on the go! Remember to pack it full because Labs eat a lot! Good news there is a lot of room to store his necessities in our innovative dog feeder. Happy trailing!
