Service dogs help people with disabilities perform everyday jobs they wouldn’t be able to do on their own. Service dogs are particularly beneficial for Veterans; offering everything from daily living support of Veterans and Dogsamputees to emotional support for those suffering depression or PTSD. There are numerous organizations that were specifically created to pair Veterans with appropriate Service Dogs because Veterans have had great results when given one of these dogs. Veterans who have service dogs achieve a higher degree of independence and overall well-being.

For some Vets learning to care for their service dog, at first, can be a challenge. Even though a service dog can provide supportive services, it’s a bit like having a child. Dogs have limitations and they cannot do everything for themselves, you can’t take a day off from caring for your dog no matter how you feel. Dogs also attract a lot of fanfare, whenever you go places with your service dog you can be sure people will want to look and touch. This may be a particularly difficult for Veterans to adjust to at first as they are typically very reserved and humble. Veterans don’t go looking for attention and may feel uncomfortable in the beginning. It’s important to realize there is an adjust period but the rewards are definitely worth it.

Getting used to traveling with your service dog can be taxing at first, you can’t just hop in your car and go. Self-reliant Veterans now have to consider the needs of a dog while away from home, the My Pet Pail can help make it simpler. With My Pet Pail everything you need to travel with your service dog is right there.
