Just like any travel, it’s important to get your vets okay before going on any trip with your dog. Let your veterinarian know your destination so you can discuss any possible first aid needs. Make sure your dog is up to date on their vaccines before going on your camping trip, both for their and everyone else’s protection.

Most Campgrounds are pet friendly, but always double check. If you’re going with a group of people, make sure they are all comfortable with a dog’s presence. When picking out your site, try to opt for something that has a bit of shade for your dog. Your dog will be very Camping With Dogsinterested in the new environment so help them out by keeping them with you while you set up tents. When you’re all done, let your pup sniff around the campsite to become accustomed to the new smells.

Make sure your dog always has identification on them. It’s important to make sure all tags and collars are secure. Keep your dog with you at all times and make sure to use their leash. Even the most well-trained dog can revert to instinct when it comes to other wildlife. It’s important to take your dog on hikes while you’re at the campground, this will cure his curiosity as well as tire him out.

While away from home, it’s important to be prepared. Pack extra towels and blankets, your dog is likely to get wet and dirty. Always have first aid supplies for your dog. Simple first aid can include anything from gauze, peroxide, ice packs, tweezers and more. Check your pet regularly for ticks, thorns or burrs. Always have plenty of food and water on hand for your dog. The extra activity and excitement are sure to increase your dogs’ hunger and thirst.
