The Golden Retriever is a large breed dog bred in the mid-19th century to retrieve waterfowl. Their soft mouth grip is perfect for retrieving game. Retrievers have a natural swimming instinct, which makes them a perfect land or water retrieval dog. Today Retrievers are used less for hunting, but are very beneficial in other ways to help their human owners.
Female Golden Retrievers usually weigh between 60-70 lbs while males can weigh anywhere between 65-75 lbs. This breed has a lifespan of 10-12 years.

Goldens are a very high energy sporting/hunting dog and require at least an hour a day of exercise. Since every dog can be very different, adjust your time of exercise based on your dogs behavior. If he starts destroying the house or yard, chances are you need to up his exercise time. Goldens need stimulation and get bored very easily so mix it up a bit. Take your dog for a walk in the morning and maybe play catch with him at night…he’ll thank you for it.

Golden Retrievers are very prone to obesity. These furry friends love to eat and beg. Its often hard to resist those solemn eyes when you’re eating, but for their health you must. Dog friendly snacks now and then are fine if your dog can tolerate them, just be sure to adjust their exercise routine accordingly. Your Golden should not be consuming more calories than he burns. Be sure to follow the recommendations on your pet’s dog food to ensure they are getting the proper amount of calories.

With its cute face and delightful disposition, it’s no wonder the Golden Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the world. The Golden Retriever is a great family pet. They’re loyal, friendly, playful and extremely tolerant. Because this breed is so intelligent, teaching tricks and commands is quite easy. Goldens love to learn so the more you teach them, the happier they are. Retrievers are up for any adventure since they just want to make their people happy.
